Rooted + Rising: Inside APSU’s Department of Art + Design

Curated by Sabrina Sanford ‘27 and APSU Prof. Paul Collins

Featuring works by current students and recent APSU graduates alongside their Art + Design mentors Yun Shin (Drawing and Foundations), Angela Hernandez Scoggins (Animation and Visual Effects), Luke Warren (Sculpture) and Patrick Gosnell (Graphic Design).

Rooted + Rising examines the breadth and excellence of works made by APSU’s most visually impactful creative community, the Department of Art+Design. This exhibition examines the connection between the Department of Art+Design’s legacy of responsive teaching in relation to a wave of recent innovative programs through a dynamic presentation of works by students and faculty.

The Department of Art + Design has long been recognized for the strength of its facilities, the regional excellence of its faculty and its accessibility and commitment to teaching at the core of its identity. A true teaching community, the Department of Art+Design prioritizes strong mentorship, student centered learning and collaborative governance. The last decade has seen a tide of powerful changes that include their new state of the art building, new concentrations for study in Art History and Animation and Visual Effects, and novel new programs opening new doors for our students. Rooted + Rising offers a rare chance to recognize and celebrate these generational changes by highlighting the work of the students and faculty working together to innovate, explore and excel in their fields of creative research.
