This gathering of 19th century paintings by William Stamms Shackelford showcases his unique depictions of various people, including portraits of the Clarksville Shackelford family.

JamesOShackelfordThe young boy in this portrait only lived to age 31. James O. Shackelford Jr. died in 1881 of malaria. James was the nephew of the artist. This painting from 1857 is on loan from the Tennessee State Museum. Both Shackelford families lived in Clarksville.
