HAM Radio: Emergency Preparedness

C.O.R.E. (Clarksville Operating Radio Enthusiasts) will set up shop in the museum’s Coca Cola Cafe’ on March 27th from 10:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. to show how HAM operators serve during major emergencies and disasters.

A special station will be used to talk with other amateur operators across the country and around the world. Amateur radio equipment that is used in emergencies will be on display. Information on how to become a licensed operator and how to serve in emergencies will also be available. Licensing testing will be available at 11:00 a.m.

We thank Hank Koebler, and the other members of C.O.R.E., who not only conduct these events at the museum, but also provide a first line of communication system when cell phones and other communication systems go down in a disaster.

This is an excellent opportunity for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts who are working on their communication badges and patches. Regular admission is charged for this event. Museum and C.O.R.E. members get in free. For more information, contact Sue Lewis.

Wanted: Fish Stories & Photos

The Exhibits Department is looking for stories & photos of “the Big Catch”. If you have a tale or image you would like to share for our “Gone Fishing” exhibit, please contact Terri Jordan, Curator of Exhibits. The marterials are needed by March 19th.

Modern Girls Cocktail Reception

In celebration of the opening of the Modern Girls Exhibit, the Customs House Museum will be hosting a cocktail reception. The reception will take place on March 11th, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Some of the exhibit’s featured artists will also be doing a gallery talk beginning at 5:15 p.m. If you plan on attending this event, a R.S.V.P. is requested.
